Docomomo US/Greater Philadelphia's January One Building One Brew event
In additon to national events like the National Symposium in Phoenix, the Modernism in America Awards, and Tour Day and monitoring ongoing advocacy issues like the Parker Center, Thompson Center, Peavey Plaza and more, Docomomo US chapters and friend organizations have planned amazing tours and lectures, launched initiatives and are monitoring advocacy issues of their own.
Below are some of the highlights taking place in the coming months.
Docomomo US | Greater Philadelphia
By Allee Davis, Secretary & Board Member
To kick off 2017, the Docomomo-US Greater Philadelphia Chapter held its One Building One Brew happy hour on Friday, January 20. The group visited Robert Venturi’s Guild House (1960-1963) and learned about the unordinary way the architect employed ordinary architectural elements to this richly contextual building. After, the neighboring Latvian Society of Philadelphia graciously hosted the group for drinks and light fare. Special t-shirts featuring a sketch of Guild House by talented board member Ben Leech were made available for sale to help celebrate the occasion (You can still purchase a t-shirt HERE). The evening was full of conversation focused on Philadelphia Modernism and the chapter’s upcoming programming for the year. The next One Building One Brew event will take place in March with an event around modernism at the Swarthmore College campus planned for the Spring or Summer time.
